Privacy Policy (draft)
Last updated: 2026-09-25
Vote4Tomorrow is an election tool created by Citizens for My Sea to Sky ("we", "us") to support community groups to educate and engage with candidates, inform the public of each candidate’s position on climate and environmental policies, and increase voter turnout to improve civic engagement.
This privacy policy explains what personal information we collect about candidates, how we use it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
This privacy policy reflects our best efforts to respect your privacy, while ensuring we can communicate clearly and effectively with you. Below we explain how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information.
How we contact you
When a candidate registers to run for election, community groups research and collate the name and email address of each candidate to contact them and invite them to complete the questionnaire for their community. This contact information may be gathered from nomination packages, local government websites, Civic Info BC, candidate's election websites, or social media.
Information candidates give us
When a candidate fills in the candidate questionnaire for their community, we collect:
- Identity and candidacy: first and last name, the office they are running for, their neighbourhood, and how many years they have lived in the community.
- Profile content: a short bio, an optional headshot photo, policy commitments, and answers community-specific questions.
- Contact details (required): an email address
- Website and social media (optional): website and social media handles or URLs relevant for the election (X, Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube).
Filling in the questionnaire is voluntary. By submitting it, a candidate agrees that we may publish their responses as described below.
We collect this information to make it easy for the public to learn more about you as a candidate, and to access your website and social media pages.
Information we collect from public sources
When a candidate submits a questionnaire, we look up their name in the public political contributions database run by Elections BC and import any matching records. These records include contributor names, dates, amounts, office and jurisdiction, and we show them on the candidate’s profile. Elections BC already makes this information public. We check matches before we publish them, but if a record looks wrong, please contact us and we will review it.
Our volunteers may also add publicly available information about a candidate, such as their name and the office they are running for, so that candidates who do not respond still appear in the guide.
What we publish
We review every questionnaire before we publish it. Once the guide for a community goes live, a candidate’s public profile may show:
- their name, office, neighbourhood, years in the community, bio and photo;
- their policy positions and their answers to our questions, published as written;
- the website and social media links they gave us;
- their Elections BC contribution records.
A candidate’s email address is kept private unless the candidate ticks the box allowing us to show it on their profile.
If a candidate does not submit a questionnaire before the deadline, their profile may say “Did Not Respond.”
How we use candidate information
- To build and publish the voter guide.
- To email the candidate a private link for viewing and editing their submission, and to contact them about their profile.
- To check submissions for accuracy and to prevent spam or abuse.
We do not sell candidate information. We do not add candidates to our newsletter or fundraising lists, and we do not use their information for any other campaign, unless they sign up separately.
Your private edit link
After a candidate submits the questionnaire, we give them a private link on screen and by email. Anyone who has this link can view and change that candidate’s submission, so please keep it private. If you think your link has been shared by mistake, contact us and we will issue a new one.
Visitors to the website
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how the site is used, such as which pages are visited and roughly where visitors are. Google may set cookies to do this. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
- Fonts: our fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when a page loads.
- Contact form: if you use our contact form, we use your name, email and message only to reply to you.
Service providers
We use third party services to send email (we will only email you once to share the custom link to your candidate questionnaire unless otherwise requested), conduct site analytics, and provide fonts. Some of these providers may store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
How long we keep information
Candidate profiles stay published as a public record of the election until we unpublish them or archive them. A candidate can ask us at any time to correct their profile or remove information they gave us. Elections BC contribution records remain public at Elections BC.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, restricted admin access and spam protection on our forms.
