Policy commitments

Buildings

We all want healthy, affordable, and comfortable homes. These policies will help to lower energy bills, cut pollution, and improve indoor air quality.

✓ Scale up energy retrofits for existing homes, businesses, and public buildings. Supportive
✓ Implement a 'right to cool' bylaw to protect tenants during extreme heat events. Supportive
Climate Justice

Our community is already experiencing the harmful impacts of climate change caused by fossil fuel pollution, and taxpayers are on the hook to upgrade and repair critical infrastructure.

✓ Enact a moratorium on AI data centres to protect our energy and water resources. Supportive
✓ Collaborate with Indigenous peoples as partners in the stewardship of the land, air, and water, and work towards reconciliation. Supportive
Ecosystems

The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat all rely on healthy ecosystems. Nature can also help protect our community from extreme weather by controlling floods, protecting shorelines, and cooling neighbourhoods. Access to nature improves the health and well-being of residents, and supports biodiversity.

✓ Protect and restore ecosystems, which are essential to human survival, health, and economic well-being. Supportive
✓ Prioritize native tree planting in all areas, especially those with low tree cover, higher population densities, and more vulnerable residents. Supportive
Land Use

We envision vibrant, walkable communities that protect nature and improve food security.

✓ Upgrade critical infrastructure for heat, fire, flood, and storm resilience. Supportive
Transport

Connecting neighbourhoods through public transit and active transportation networks will cut pollution, improve public health, and make our communities more affordable (and fun!).

✓ Advocate to improve regional public transit between communities. Supportive
Watersheds

Climate change, increasing populations, and overconsumption threaten our water security. Healthy watersheds and forests are critical to support clean drinking water, stormwater management, climate resilience, and biodiversity for future generations.

✓ Implement water conservation plans and educate the public to conserve drinking water. Supportive
✓ Protect and restore watersheds as vital municipal infrastructure. Supportive
Zero Waste

Zero waste policies reduce pollution, keep waste out of landfills, build resilient local economies, and safeguard public health by shifting society away from a disposable culture toward a sustainable circular economy.

✓ Support the development of a circular economy to eliminate waste and improve resilience. Supportive

Climate action

How have you contributed to climate action in your community through advocacy, past work, advisory committees, volunteer work, and/or reducing your personal carbon footprint?
In my home we have reduced our personal carbon footprint by downgrading to one personal vehicle. I walk my children to and from school almost daily. When building our home we installed a 4000L underground rainwater cistern which we use to water lawns and gardens. When the town only required us to build to a level 1 step code, we build to a step code 3.

Questions for View Royal

What would you do to alleviate the traffic congestion throughout View Royal?
The reality is traffic congestion isn't just a View Royal issue, it's a regional issue. However, within the municipality I can advocate for connecting gaps in our cycling network. This will increase safety and cycling efficiency therefore enticing would be drivers onto greener means of transport. While voicing support for the unlocking of the rail corridor, it is important to me that the impact on the E&N bike lane and surrounding parks be considered.
I think a View Royal Bike to work day could be a fun, community building event to get people on their bikes.
Have you actively participated in any of the Town's surveys, workshops, etc on the OCP, the Urban Forest Strategy, Climate Action Plan, Active Transportation Plan, Strategic Plan? How important are these subjects to you?
Myself and other family members in the community participated in the 2025 Community Growth Survey, 2026 draft OCP survey, and 2026 Community Satisfaction Survey. The Community growth survey is important to me because although I love View Royal how it is now, with external pressures from the province and obvious population growth, we must grow responsibly and grow thoughtfully.
If elected I would like to put some of my time towards the Active Transportation plan. Being involved in these changes and decisions to bring active transportation connections across the municipality could greatly increase the desire for residents to use active transportation.
To what degree would you support the recovery of climate-change-related costs from polluters, to lessen the related burden on View Royal taxpayers?
It is my hope that our municipality, our region, our province, and our country can all pull together to build communities that are clean, with healthy ecosystems where we can raise healthy generations.
I could support the recovery of climate change related costs if View Royal was joining together with other municipalities for this cause.
I would however like to look into the banning of non-essential use of herbicides and pesticides in View Royal.
