Climate action

How have you contributed to climate action in your community through advocacy, past work, advisory committees, volunteer work, and/or reducing your personal carbon footprint?
Public Service: During my tenue as a Richmond School Trustee, the Richmond Board of Education committed to environmental stewardship. In 2012, BC Hydro recognized Richmond School District (SD38) as a business customer that demonstrated a best-in-class approach to energy management and conservation. As such, SD38 received Power Smart Excellence Awards in 2012. The Board also set aside an annual budget for Sustainability Grants to schools to fund school-based environmental projects, working with community partners such as David Suzuki Foundation to offer workshops to students and the general public. Today, SD38 continues to be one of the business and K to 12 public education leaders in environmental stewardship in the world. Personal: Our family commits to "reduce, reuse and recycle". We completed an environmental energy efficiency upgrade, installed energy savings light bulbs and power smart appliances. We grow fruits, vegetables and plants in the front and back yards. We also donate clothing, shoes, accessories and household items to charities.
Volunteer: I work with various Rotary Clubs in clothing swaps, donate clothing/shoes to local and overseas charities.
