Climate action
How have you contributed to climate action in your community through advocacy, past work, advisory committees, volunteer work, and/or reducing your personal carbon footprint?
I advanced climate action by securing $78,000 for tree planting, brought forward the City’s Rain Barrel Program and supported the Lions Park rain garden. I also serve in watershed leadership, use an e-bike and will advocate for soft-plastic pickup added to our recycling program.
Questions for Port Coquitlam
Port Coquitlam is vulnerable to many climate-related risks (e.g., intense rainfall, flooding, wildfire smoke, and extreme heat events). How will you address these risks to increase our community’s resilience?
I will support green infrastructure and emergency planning. Council has implemented two pump-station upgrades to reduce flood risk. Parks and Fire Departments continue to monitor climate risks, and I will seek reports to ensure we remain prepared.
If elected, will you do everything you can to ensure that Port Coquitlam implements the highest level of the Zero Carbon Step Code by January 2028, so that all new buildings are required to be built to be virtually zero carbon going forward?
Yes. I have already raised this at a committee meeting and will continue supporting a practical plan to reach the highest level by January 2028, with clear timelines, consultation, support for builders and consideration of housing affordability.
