About
Policy commitments
We all want healthy, affordable, and comfortable homes. These policies will help to lower energy bills, cut pollution, and improve indoor air quality.
Our community is already experiencing the harmful impacts of climate change caused by fossil fuel pollution, and taxpayers are on the hook to upgrade and repair critical infrastructure.
The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat all rely on healthy ecosystems. Nature can also help protect our community from extreme weather by controlling floods, protecting shorelines, and cooling neighbourhoods. Access to nature improves the health and well-being of residents, and supports biodiversity.
We envision vibrant, walkable communities that protect nature and improve food security.
Connecting neighbourhoods through public transit and active transportation networks will cut pollution, improve public health, and make our communities more affordable (and fun!).

Questions for Port Coquitlam
Protecting mature trees, planting shade trees and caring for PoCo’s creeks and natural areas are part of that work. We should assess erosion along waterways such as Cedar Creek, address threats to trees, trails and infrastructure, and track whether planting and preservation efforts are increasing tree cover.
Port Coquitlam already provides places to cool down, including the community centre. I support continuing that service, but we also need to consider residents who stay home, where heat and wildfire smoke can still affect them. I would work with Fraser Health and community organizations to improve access to practical advice and explore assistance with home cooling and air filtration for residents who cannot afford it. Checking on seniors and people living alone, and helping those who need transportation to a suitable public space, should also be part of our response.
Port Coquitlam already has an emergency preparedness program, and I support keeping it well resourced, regularly reviewed and tested as risks change. I would work with staff to identify any gaps and help increase awareness of the City’s emergency alerts and preparedness resources. Residents should know where to get reliable information and how to access help, particularly seniors,
