About

DNV Councillor since 2018, lifelong North Vancouver resident, husband and dad. I’m committed to thoughtful growth, strong communities, protecting our natural environment, and building a sustainable future for the next generation.

Policy commitments

Buildings

We all want healthy, affordable, and comfortable homes. These policies will help to lower energy bills, cut pollution, and improve indoor air quality.

✓ Scale up energy retrofits for existing homes, businesses, and public buildings. Supportive
✓ Implement a 'right to cool' bylaw to protect tenants during extreme heat events. Supportive
Climate Justice

Our community is already experiencing the harmful impacts of climate change caused by fossil fuel pollution, and taxpayers are on the hook to upgrade and repair critical infrastructure.

✓ Enact a moratorium on AI data centres to protect our energy and water resources. Supportive
✓ Pursue available legal options to recover a fair share of the climate costs facing our community from fossil fuel companies and other big polluters. Supportive
✓ Collaborate with Indigenous peoples as partners in the stewardship of the land, air, and water, and work towards reconciliation. Supportive
Ecosystems

The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat all rely on healthy ecosystems. Nature can also help protect our community from extreme weather by controlling floods, protecting shorelines, and cooling neighbourhoods. Access to nature improves the health and well-being of residents, and supports biodiversity.

✓ Expand and protect tree canopy, parks, and green infrastructure to cool neighbourhoods, clean air, and manage stormwater. Supportive
Land Use

We envision vibrant, walkable communities that protect nature and improve food security.

✓ Build affordable homes near jobs, schools, shops, and transit. Supportive
✓ Upgrade critical infrastructure for heat, fire, flood, and storm resilience. Supportive
Transport

Connecting neighbourhoods through public transit and active transportation networks will cut pollution, improve public health, and make our communities more affordable (and fun!).

✓ Advocate to improve regional public transit between communities. Supportive
Zero Waste

Zero waste policies reduce pollution, keep waste out of landfills, build resilient local economies, and safeguard public health by shifting society away from a disposable culture toward a sustainable circular economy.

✓ Implement zero waste bylaws to divert organic waste and recyclables from disposal. Supportive

Climate action

How have you contributed to climate action in your community through advocacy, past work, advisory committees, volunteer work, and/or reducing your personal carbon footprint?
During this term, I have served as Council’s representative on the District’s Climate Action Advisory Committee, where I’ve had the opportunity to engage directly on issues including emissions reduction, climate adaptation, biodiversity and community resilience.

At Council, I have consistently supported investment in climate action, parks and trails, and advocated for clearer reporting and accountability around the District’s climate commitments. I have also supported expanding active transportation and creating safer, better-connected options for walking and cycling.

I’ve brought forward several initiatives with direct environmental benefits, including a motion asking the District to explore residential water metering as a way to encourage conservation and more responsible use of our water supply, and a motion to support making the District a Bird Friendly Community and further protect local biodiversity.

Personally, I’m an avid cyclist and strong believer in active transportation. As a lifelong North Vancouver resident and a father of two young children, protecting the natural environment that makes our community so special, while preparing it for the impacts of climate change, is very important to me.

Questions for North Vancouver (District of)

The District of North Vancouver is vulnerable to many climate-related risks (e.g., intense rainfall, flooding, sea level rise, wildfire, wildfire smoke, and extreme heat events). How will you address these risks to increase our community’s resilience?
The 2024 atmospheric river was a powerful reminder that climate change is already affecting our community. I will always remember the helpless feeling of watching neighbours’ homes being flooded and not knowing what more we could be doing. That experience reinforced for me that we need to be better prepared.

I support fully implementing the lessons and recommendations that came out of the District’s review of that event, including strengthening emergency response, improving communication with residents, and continuing to invest in stormwater, drainage and creek infrastructure.

More broadly, we need to build climate resilience into the way we plan and invest. That means ensuring new and existing infrastructure is designed for more frequent extreme weather, improving flood and sea-level-rise planning, protecting and restoring natural areas that help manage stormwater, and continuing wildfire prevention and forest management.

We also need strong plans for extreme heat and wildfire smoke, particularly for seniors and other vulnerable residents, including access to cooling and clean-air spaces.

Climate resilience needs to be considered in our long-term asset management and capital planning, not treated as a separate issue. Preparing now will help protect residents, infrastructure and our natural environment as these events become more frequent and severe.
