About

I've been a long-term resident of Langford and would like an opportunity to help shape its future. I believe in learning from our mistakes and implementing policies and changes that make sense for our community.

Policy commitments

Buildings

We all want healthy, affordable, and comfortable homes. These policies will help to lower energy bills, cut pollution, and improve indoor air quality.

✓ Scale up energy retrofits for existing homes, businesses, and public buildings. Supportive
~ Implement a 'right to cool' bylaw to protect tenants during extreme heat events. Neutral
Climate Justice

Our community is already experiencing the harmful impacts of climate change caused by fossil fuel pollution, and taxpayers are on the hook to upgrade and repair critical infrastructure.

~ Enact a moratorium on AI data centres to protect our energy and water resources. Neutral
✓ Collaborate with Indigenous peoples as partners in the stewardship of the land, air, and water, and work towards reconciliation. Supportive
Ecosystems

The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat all rely on healthy ecosystems. Nature can also help protect our community from extreme weather by controlling floods, protecting shorelines, and cooling neighbourhoods. Access to nature improves the health and well-being of residents, and supports biodiversity.

✓ Protect and restore ecosystems, which are essential to human survival, health, and economic well-being. Supportive
Land Use

We envision vibrant, walkable communities that protect nature and improve food security.

✓ Upgrade critical infrastructure for heat, fire, flood, and storm resilience. Supportive
Transport

Connecting neighbourhoods through public transit and active transportation networks will cut pollution, improve public health, and make our communities more affordable (and fun!).

✓ Advocate to improve regional public transit between communities. Supportive
Watersheds

Climate change, increasing populations, and overconsumption threaten our water security. Healthy watersheds and forests are critical to support clean drinking water, stormwater management, climate resilience, and biodiversity for future generations.

✓ Protect and restore watersheds as vital municipal infrastructure. Supportive
Zero Waste

Zero waste policies reduce pollution, keep waste out of landfills, build resilient local economies, and safeguard public health by shifting society away from a disposable culture toward a sustainable circular economy.

✓ Support the development of a circular economy to eliminate waste and improve resilience. Supportive

Climate action

How have you contributed to climate action in your community through advocacy, past work, advisory committees, volunteer work, and/or reducing your personal carbon footprint?
A. I love gardening and have composted since I first started that. I also took the bus for many many years and choose to drive a small vehicle .

Questions for Langford

Do you commit to support Langford's climate initiatives such as the Zero Carbon Step Code, making life more affordable (lower heating & cooling bills) and healthier & safer (more resilient against heat waves, methane pollution & smoky skies)?
I support any initiative combating climate change and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. I like the idea of methane capture and using it as a fuel source for cooking or heat.
To what degree would you support the recovery of climate-change-related costs from polluters, to lessen the related burden on Langford’s taxpayers?
Langford has made it clear they do not want higher taxes so anything to help that happen is of grave importance. Langford was always a business welcoming community community and we have to balance that against climate advocacy.
What would you do to help Langford implement and act on the Climate Action Plan that was presented by staff and the consultants on August 17th?
I believe a new mayor and Council would have to revamp the climate action plan to be better suited for Langford .
Do you wish to clarify or add information? You may use this space (250 word limit).
Climate change is an extremely serious situation and humanity has caused this problem. However, I believe we can fix it as well. We can combine business with climate resilience and good policies such as NetZero homes. I also support new incineration technology with multi-stage combustion where only CO2 and nitrogen is released which can be captured and sequestered into plant life or used in other industrial ways. I think one thing too many municipalities don't do is look around the world and see what is working and what is not and applying that to our community and also learning from our mistakes.
